The official opening of a new plant for plasterboard of Knauf Bulgaria will take place in the village of Mednikarovo, near Galabovo, in Stara Zagora Region, on Thursday, June 17, 2010.
The size of the investment by Knauf, the German supplier of construction materials, amounts to EUR 53.9 million. The Knauf plant will utilise by-product gypsum
from the flue gas desulphurisation operations (REA gypsum) of nearby
power complex Maritsa Iztok, will produce 30 million sq. m of plasterboard
annually and will employ 100 workers.
Knauf operates in Bulgaria since 1997 when it acquired the Gipsofazer
plant in Vidin, North-western Bulgaria.

Stara Zagora is the only Bulgarian city achieving top positions in FDI Magazine's Cities and Regions of the Future2010/2011 rankings. The city of Stara Zagora was ranked 2nd in two categories such as top 5 FDI Strategy- Eastern Europe and top 5 micro FDI Strategy (micro cities have a population of less than 250,000).
fDi Cities and Regions of the Future shortlists were created from anindependent collection of data by fDi Benchmark across 223 Europeancities and 142 European regions. This information was set under sixcategories:
economic potential,
human resources,
cost effectiveness,
quality of life,
infrastructure and
business friendliness.

Russian Investment Funds Eye Bulgarian SPA Centers Russian Investment funds show increased and growing interest in Bulgarian SPA centers both on the Black Sea coast and inside the country.
The information was reported by the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) Tuesday, citing the President of the Bulgarian branch of the international real estate federation FIABCI, who said Russian investors are inquiring about possibility to purchase entire complexes at once.

Bulgarian Trains Canceled Because of Strike in Greece The international trains traveling between Bulgaria and Greece will be canceled on September 8-9 because of a strike in Greece on those dates.
Bulgaria's state railway company BDZ announced that the two daily trains running between the Bulgarian capital Sofia and the Greek city of Thessaloniki will run only in the section between Sofia and the Kulata border crossing point.
The passengers who decide to take these trains will be transported by bus between Kulata and Thessaloniki.

Bulgarian Govt Vows to Obliterate Budget Deficit by 2013 Bulgaria will have a budget deficit of 2.5% in 2011, and will bring it under 1% in 2013, according to Deputy Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov.

European scientists have discovered that human expansion rather than climate change was the chief reason why cave bears became extinct in Europe around 24,000 years ago. They claim increased competition between humans and bears for land and shelter - in particular for the caves used by the bears for hibernation during the winter months - triggered the decline in cave bear population levels. Is photovoltaic (PV)-generated electricity taking the world by storm? Latest figures released by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) point to a steady, growing trend in this green energy area. Newly installed PV cells generated 7.4 gigawatts (GW) of power globally in 2009, of which 5.8 GW were produced in Europe, says the JRC its 9th annual Photovoltaics Status Report, released on 6 September.
